The European Day of Wine Tourism was celebrated last sunday, 10th November, and we celebrated it the best way!

A Sunday marked by the aroma, flavors and varieties of the best wines of Portugal.

Iniciámos o dia com um maravilhoso cruzeiro pelo Rio Douro. Onde pudemos apreciar a beleza incomparável do Douro, num cenário único onde a Natureza é a protagonista. 

We started the day with a wonderful boat trip through the Douro’s river. Here we can enjoy the incomparable beauty of the Douro, a unique place where nature is the protagonist. Principal attraction.

Terminado o passeio de barco, fomos até uma das mais prestigiadas caves do Vinho do Porto, Sandeman.

Num edifício de granito de 1797 majestosamente situado em frente ao centro Histórico do Porto, com vista para o Rio Douro, as Caves do Vinho do Porto proporcionam-nos uma experiência plena de mistério e sensualidade. 

Fomos guiados pelas caves por um profissional vestido a rigor (capa dos estudantes universitários portugueses e o sombrero espanhol), que nos foi explicando a história do Vinho do Porto e o seu envelhecimento. 

No final tivemos oportunidade de provar rubies e tawnies, num espaço acolhedor e intimista.

After the boat trip we went to ‘Sandeman’, the famous 18th Century Port wine lodges.

In a granite building of 1797, majestically situated on the historical centre of Oporto, overlooking the Douro’s river, the Port Wine lodges offer us an experience full of mystery and sensuality.

We were guided through the lodges by a professional dressed in the cape worn by Portuguese university students and the Spanish sombrero, he was explaining us the history of Oporto wine and ageing.

At the end we were able to prove rubies and tawnies, in a warm and intimate space. 

Seguiu-se o almoço e nós escolhemos a zona Ribeirinha do Porto como palco. Imaginam o prato escolhido? A Francesinha à moda do Porto! Um prato típico da região de sabor inconfundível! 

Its lunch time and we chose a restaurant with a privileged view over the Douro’s River. Imagine the chosen dish? The Francesinha à moda do Porto! A typical dish from the region of unmistakable flavor!

Durante a tarde visitámos uma adega tradicional, situada na região demarcada do Douro.

Aqui foi-nos explicado todo o processo de fabrico de vinho. Sabia que, no caso do vinho tinto a etapa mais importante, o envelhecimento dura entre 6 meses a 1 ano?

During the afternoon we visited a traditional cellar, situated in the Douro demarcated wine region.

Here have been explained all the wine making process. Do you know that, in the case of red wine the most important step, ageing lasts between six months to one year?

Para finalizar a nossa visita com chave de ouro tivemos direito a nova prova de vinhos, desta vez ao ar livre, desfrutando da beleza da vinha tradicional Portuguesa. 

To finish our trip in style we had a second wine tasting, this time open-air, enjoying the beauty of the Portuguese’s traditional vineyard.

História e tradição de S. Martinho | History and tradition of St. Martin

São Martinho | Saint Martin

Em Portugal o dia de S. Martinho é celebrado um pouco por todo o país.

Reza a lenda que Martinho, um soldado Romano que estava a caminho de França. Ao cruzar os Alpes, numa zona muito fria, Martinho avista um homem muito pobre, vestido com roupas velhas e rasgadas, cheio de frio. 

Então Martinho pegou na sua espada, levantou-a e deu um golpe na sua quente capa vermelha. Dividiu-a ao meio e deu metade ao homem pobre, para que este se agasalha-se.

Nesse instante as nuvens e o mau tempo passaram e o sol reluzia quente no céu. Foi como que uma recompensa pela boa acção de Martinho, que entretanto foi nomeado Santo. 

É por esta razão que, todos os anos, no início de Novembro se assam castanhas e se prova o vinho novo, para celebrar o dia de S. Martinho.

In Portugal the day of St. Martin is celebrated all over the country.

According to the legend, Martin, a Roman soldier who was on his way to France, saw a very poor man, dressed in old clothes, chilly, while crossing the Alps, a very cold area.

So Martin took his sword, raised it and took a blow to his hot red cape. Divided it into the middle and gave half to the poor man, for him to warm up.

At that moment the clouds and the bad weather turn into a sunny and hot weather. It was like a reward for the good action of Martin, which since then has been named Saint.

It is for this reason that, every year, in early November it is a tradition to roast chestnuts and taste wine, celebrating the day of St. Martin.

Feira do Cavalo | Horse Fair Golegã

Este ano, integrada na Feira de S. Martinho, entre os dias 07 e 16 de novembro, na Golegã, decorre a 39ª edição da Feira Nacional do Cavalo e a 16ª edição da Feira Internacional do Cavalo Lusitano.

This year, as part of the St. Martin’s festival, between the 07th and the 16th of November in Golegã, take place the 39th edition of the National Horse Festival and the 16th edition of the International ‘Lusitano’ Horse Festival.

É durante estes dias, que a tradição, que teve início em 1571 nesta Vila do Ribatejo, volta a trazer à Golegã a visita de aficionados, profissionais, amadores ou simples curiosos do mundo equestre, cujo propósito é o de assistir, ou mesmo de participar, nas atividades equestres que decorrem na Feira.

It’s during this days, that the tradition, born in 1571, at this Village of Ribatejo, brings back to Golegã, the World of professionals, hobbyists or simply curious about the equestrian world. At this time of the year, Golegã is the place for many different activities:
